Argov- Zohar
|
Zohar Argov, is probably the best loved artist in the Mizrahi music scene. He has been crowned "The King" by countless fans.
Beginning with his first album, Zohar Argov enjoyed tremendous success and became a star nearly overnight.
Besides his great musical and vocal talents, Argov is also a cultural symbol in many ways. He managed to rise from the "Mediterranean Ghetto", from poverty and crime, and become one of the most famous Israeli artists of all times.
He battled with a severe drug addiction throughout his life and was arrested many times, A few days after one of these arrests in 1987, he committed suicide and died in his cell.
Even though his personal life was far from exemplary, he is still remembered as one of the greatest artistic contributors to Mizrahi music, and has become an inspiration to an entire generation of singers in this genre.
