Ladino is the language of the Sephardic Jews, it is ancient Spanish enriched with words form various places in which the Jews resided for 500 years. The roots of Ladino music are similar.
Although based on ancient Spanish music, following the Jews expulsion from Spain in the end of the 15th century, Ladino music was influenced by many different musical traditions in different countries such as Turkey, Greece, Italy and others.
In addition to the romances which were preserved throughout the centuries in the various locations, hundreds of songs expressing love, jealousy, pain and yearning for Jerusalem were composed.
These romances and songs were passed down from mother to daughter for many generations thus accompanying the life of the community, and have reached us with their original beauty.
