25 of the best marches written by John P. Sousa. One person comes to mind when listening to American Marches - John Philip Sousa "The March King". Sousa was born in 1894 and at the early age of twenty-six became the conductor of the United States Marine Band. He used the band to explore new avenues in producing beautiful tunes instead of clangorous and blaring noises which were prevalent in regular brass bands up to that time. He entirely changed the normal composition of the military band by decreasing the number of brass and percussion instruments and increasing the numbers of woodwinds. His band's world tours were enjoyed immense acclaim and introduced American Marches throughout Europe. This CD presents twenty five American Marches that will bring you memories of parades and national holidays. There are many Sousa marches featured, including: "El Capitan" "Gladiators" "Hands Across the Sea" "High School Cadets" "King Cotton" "Liberty Bell" "Manhattan Beach" "Semper Fidelis" "The Thunderer" "Washington Post", and the most memorable American March - "Stars and Stripes Forever".
