In the Jewish month of Tishrei 2007 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Binyamin Ungar. He was born in the month of Tishrei, immigrated to Israel in the month of Tishrei and passed away in the month of Tishrei.
We are very glad to present the lovers of cantorial music with two CDs which included prayers and songs from his inheritance.
We are thankful to the daughters of the Cantor Binyamin Ungar, Miriam Taiber and Varda Spokvini, who have allowed us to use these recordings from different occasions, some of which date back many years. The first CD also includes songs sung by his grandchildren and great grandchildren who continue the tradition of cantillation in the family.
The prayer of Hoshana Raba is a great test for every cantor, because it must be prayed in three different versions. The weekday version, the three festivals version and the days of awe version and he must "maneuver" between these three versions.
The music was recorded during prayer and we decided to produce this CD despite the background noise which accompanies the recording. One can hear the voices of the worshipers in the background.
As a close friend of Cantor Binyamin Ungar, I am glad for the privilege I have been given to bring these recordings to the lovers of prayer and cantillation.
